This is just a ploy by Obama to cadge more campaign contributions from the solar panel industry before the rest of them go broke.

I have stopped buying things made in China. It cuts down on quite a number of things available but at least I am not investing in the country that is buying our debt day by day. I am also worried that items that touch our skin and foods are toxic if they come from China. China has manipulated their currency to an unfair advantage, but Wal Mart is happy they do as most of their goods come from China. Oops too much said already.

If the Chinese Government wants to sell me some solar panels at below cost with the Chinese taxpayer footing the reduction... When it benefits the American consumer and costs the Chinese taxpayer... What problem is there? I don't see a problem? When China stops using it's taxpayers to subsidize export sales, then American manufacturers can start building solar panels.

Goatroper has a good point:
"We need to be careful about applying tariffs without trade negotiations. It could backfire on us. Not that we need all the cheap plastic crap being imported by the ton, but we need them to be buying our products too."

...Ok, rx7racercarca, I digress: ...President Obama is a very good orator, wordsmith, spin-artist, etc...In reality, the actual "change" for the American people is less than "hope"ful... :/
...Happy now?

China is very good at playing the tariff game and the protectionism racket. As long as they continue to own so much of our manufacturing, they will continue to be successful at it, too.

There has to be an end to subsidies. The Chinese always seem to be a step ahead of us. A tariff placed on the panels would then be reflected in the price that they would sell to us.I don't believe that we win either way.

a world economy is tough to deal with, especially when congress doesn't have clue on how to run the US economy. A change in DC is a must

I don't know man. What if, in retaliation, the Chinese raise prices on all the stuff they sell to Wal-Mart. How would you like those apples?

We need "Ricer's" to make cheap panels for us. Maybe we can help a country feed a population bent on breeding their brains out in return.
Seems like a "Win, Win".

Only if it can be proven that they are selling at less than their cost of production. Otherwise, if the American Coalition can't compete then they should do what many other sectors are doing - make deals with the Chinese or have them do the manufacturing for the American Coalition.
