Sounds like Richard Trumka needs to be the first to move into a cave, so he can show us how it's done.

The key is the word "at least for now".

@DrpepperTx - isn't that the truth. And joseph000, the issue isn't dumb good old boys as you'd truly love to believe. It's that no one has found a current energy source with anywhere near the energy density of fossil fuels. Without a similarly energy dense alternative, replacement is impossible.
The guys who invent the viable replacement will be the next energy barons you're trashing today.

The problem with weaning ourselves off oil and gas is dumb good old boys.
Moving to alternative energy sources, be they solar, wind, tidal, whatever, will in fact create generations of jobs in the millions, it will be great for our economy and for most people.
Who it won't be good for is the good old boys that make billions off the old energy system. If they were really smart, they would happily invest into the next technology to make their billions from, but they aren't that smart, they have no idea what will be the next big thing. It scares the hell out of them to even think of a world where they aren't the energy barons. Even scarier is the possibility there won't be a single dominant energy medium, and monopolizing will be far more difficult with possibly dozens of diverse means for consumers to get energy, making actual competition possible to reduce gouging.

NGC4565, great post!
Definitely a clear look into the anti-fossil fuel mentality.

the big question is:
why doesn't canada just process this muck in canada?
Why do they need to pump the oil 2000 miles to Texas in the first place?
who stands to benefit from this pipeline and why?

If you voted in 08 for Obama to prove your not a racist, then vote against him in 2012 to prove your not a dumb ass.

Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc'-ra-cy): a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.
